Born in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu state of India in 1936 as the eldest of the four children of Rajaraman and Kalpakambal, I grew up in the adjoining Kerala state where my father was employed. My education as well as professional career were rooted in Thiruvananthapuram (aka Trivandrum), capital city of Kerala.
Graduated in Civil Engineering in 1956 from the College of Engineering, Trivandrum (often abbreviated as CET), and joined the same college as a Lecturer in 1957. Became Principal of the college in 1986.
Took charge as the Director of Technical Education, Kerala in 1987, and worked in that post till my retirement in 1991. Subsequently, I did a 5-year stint as Visiting Professor in the I.I.T., Madras until 1996.
My wife Kamala and I now live in our home in Trivandrum. We have a son Anantharaman (the eldest) — who too graduated in Civil Engineering from the CET in 1984 — and two daughters, Geetha and Radha (the youngest). All the three are married and settled outside Kerala. We have 3 grandchildren.
